Abstract

The talk is about the classical Kakeya problem and Wolff’s circular Kakeya problem in harmonic analysis, their connections to Fourier decoupling inequalities in Fourier restriction theory, and their connections to several problems in geometric measure theory and combinatorics.

About the speaker

Shaoming Guo finished his PhD at the University of Bonn in 2015. From 2015 to 2018 he did his postdoc at Indiana University Bloomington, and in 2017 he was a postdoc at MSRI, Berkeley. Currently he is an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin Madison, working on harmonic analysis, analytic number theory, and geometric measure theory. His papers are published in Inventiones Math, Duke Math Journal, American Journal of Math, etc.
