large-deformation poroelasticity, models, algorithms, and applications

Abstract

In this talk, I will introduce large-deformation poroelasticity models. Particularly, I will present some mathematical models for lung ventilation The following topics will be discussed: 1. a coupled model which involves 3D poroelastic lung parenchyma interacting with 0D airway tree; 2. a 3D fluid airway tree model imposing elastic boundary condition for reflecting the effects of lung elastance and resistance. These boundary conditions are imposed by using an inverse problem technique. Simulation based on the 2nd model results for upper airway tree will be presented to show that our model and results are reasonable. Some possible extensions will also be briefly mentioned.
